Merlin had been wondering what makes a person truly great. He decided to send Jack and Annie to meet four wise humans throughout history and learn secrets of greatness. To help, Merlin gave them a Ring of Truth, which will glow when they discovered the secret, and a bottle containing mist from the Isle of Avalon that would allow the two to experience greatness in themselves.
